State of the Blog – 6 months in

So I’ve been trying to blog for six months now and have found that I don’t give it as much effort as I should. I am going to redouble my efforts and make time to post at least once a week be it a photography quote, some work samples, personal photos, or a gear review. I will post at least once a week. That’s my hope anyway. Lets see how it goes.

So when I first started this blog it was my intention to post daily or worst case weekly, but it seems that the best I can manage right now is a monthly or bi-monthly post. This isn’t for lack of content but for lack of time. Between shooting, processing, raising twins, building a house, and trying to find time to sleep I have discovered I have little to no time to post. In the past couple of months there have been lots of good images made. Hopefully I can get around to actually putting some on the blog.

I should be better at this.

I really should be better at writing on a daily or at least weekly basis. When I first started this blog my goal was to update it daily. Well like most new years resolutions I started off strong but ultimately just couldn’t seem to find the time to keep up with it. I am hoping to attack it will some renewed vigor. This time I am going to be slightly more realistic though. I am aiming for a weekly update, and if I’m feeling extra productive I will update more often. Lets see how long this last.

I’m a serious slacker – sort of

I haven’t posted in the past week, but in my defense life has been crazy. Wednesday and Thursday most of my time was spent preparing for a website update that should happen next week sometime. Friday I spent half of the day at the DMV getting a new license. Finally!!! The second half of Friday I was helping my little sister move into her new apartment in New Orleans. Saturday was a mix of shooting, and staking out my property lines in preparation for construction. Sunday was some bridal consultations, helping a friend cut down some trees and mark out his land, and then the Super Bowl. I have to be honest trying to write everyday has become more difficult than I first imagined. I am finding I’m too busy living my life to actually write about it.

Weekend Update

This weekend was a non-stop blur. Friday I had a bridal shoot with Daryl, and I had to edit the and prep the hundreds of pictures from my four corporate jobs earlier in the week. Saturday I woke up early did a little more editing then prepared for my day trip to New Orleans for Emily Mabile’s trash the dress session. Saturday evening was more editing. Sunday guess what – more editing. While I do love the editing process I am starting to understand why other shooters are willing to let an assistant handle this part of their work flow.

Weekend Update

I spent the majority of my weekend doing some maintenance on my parents house. It started with a simple enough request. My mom wanted me to hang a door for her. That simple little task turned into a full weekend of fix-its. Including re-tiling a bathroom, and fixing a kitchen sink. It seems I’m just as handy with a wrench or hammer as I am with a camera.

So this weekend was interesting to say the least.

Friday morning started off great. I had a breakfast meeting with a representative from the Baton Rouge Area Chamber; a business group I am thinking of joining. Then things got interesting. I opened my wallet to pay for breakfast, and discovered I had let my drivers license expire. In my defense I thought I had another year before it lapsed. So needless to say that drastically changed my plans for Friday.

I quickly rushed to the nearest DMV only to discover I was unable to renew my license because of an insurance flag. Apparently my insurance company failed to send the proper reports to the DMV when my previous vehicle was totaled – 2 YEARS AGO!!. So now not only do I have the immense pleasure of dealing with the DMV, but I also get the joy of dealing with my insurance company.

To make a long and very boring story of my day short and a little less mind numbing I will summarize. What was originally suppose to be a productive day of networking with individuals and business in the wedding industry turned into waiting in impossibly long lines and dealing with my insurance and license issues. Oh and the real kicker is I’m still driving on an expired license because it takes at least 3 business days to process the insurance forms and lift the flag.

Saturday I spent the majority of the day helping friends and family deal with frozen water pipes because of the extremely cold temperatures. Heat guns, hack saws, PVC pipe and glue, and half a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black between me and a friend. Saturday is what I refer to as a man day.

Sunday I stayed indoors and caught up on sorting personal photos, but that is another post all together.

Starting Something New

A fellow photographer recommended that I start a blog. They said it would help to spur my creativity and increase my productivity and focus. So here it goes; lets see how it turns out.
